財大氣粗

  報載中國寧波一個卅二人遊旅團在菲律賓乘飛機回國時出現狀況,其中一名團員因為不肯聽從空姐的要求讓座與一名外籍旅客,雙方發生衝突,最後機長報警把有關華籍團員帶下飛機,其餘團員也跟隨而下,導致全團滯留菲國。初看到這則新聞以為華人在外國航班上被欺負,細看內容,原來只是一個「財大氣粗」的故事而已。

  稍為注意航班飛行安全的人們都會知道,在飛機安全出口兩旁的座位不是隨意任何人都可以坐的。在緊急逼降情況下,空服人員是需要安全出口座位的乘客協助打開機門和疏散。因此,在該排座椅上的客人必須能有開動機門的體力,以及能夠與空服人員溝通操作。在寧波旅客被要求換座的事件中,空姐是因為安全出口座位的原中國旅客不懂英語,而空服員又不懂中國,於是要求懂英語的外籍旅客調換座位至安全出口。可是,座位上的一名中國乘客不單拒絕換坐,還發火說為什麼航空公司不找會中文的人員來服務。言語越演越烈且有成肢體衝突之勢,於是空姐才向機長報告。

  過去因為中國普遍窮困,國際地位低,中國人不受尊重。隨著經濟逐漸富裕,可以一擲千金甚至萬金的中國人也越來越多。但並不一定有了財富就必然會被尊重的,如個人文化素質不提高,有錢消費也不見得就是貴客。

  過去友人曾說,在機場內高聲責罵服務員的亞洲人,大多是台灣旅客。這說法不科學,只能算是部份人的印象。現在中國富人比台灣可能還要多,一個廣東省的國民生產總值已超過台灣。「財大氣粗」這不雅稱號又會否同時被中國大陸旅客所佔去呢?

There seems to be a minor typo in your article:

And I agree with your points. I hope through this incident he would get a better perspective of what the world is like, and begin to realize the importance of respecting and following rules.

In the commerical aircraft, the flight crew has all the power to make the trip safe, and comfortable for all passengers. They can tie down drunken passengers if needs to be. They will ask you to put your carry on luggage away (under the seats or in the overhead storage bin). The Chinese passenger in this incident was too sensitive about being look down upon. The crew has
a good reason sometimes to do what they have to do. They are paid to serve you; at the same time, they have to follow the safety rules.

About a year ago, there was a fight between the crew and a wealthy (high society) Hong Kong lady on the Cathay Pacific flight. The wealthty lady refused to put away her expensive handbag. The result: the crew called the police to get it settled. Departure got delayed.

If you want ot hug your LV bag all the way, why don't you buy yourself a 747 or Airbus?

When a Shenzhen mingong returning to Sichuan attempted a bodywash (and asked for shampoo), it was funny. But when this incident happened in the Philippines, it is not.

There had been numerous incidents of passengers mistrusting airlines when planes are delayed even to the point of refusing to get off the plane. In the U.S., they'd probably treat it as terrorism and get the swat team in to take care of it.

China still lacks the spirit of the rule of law and people do not respect law as much as in the West. (As in: Obey flight attendants or else.) For air travel, this isn't something the Chinese government should teach its outbound citizens, but it's something that should be taught to citizens traveling domestically AND internationally.
